Indiatourism Chennai Hosts Housekeeping Training to Boost Hospitality Standards in Coimbatore
Indiatourism Chennai, Southern Regional Office of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, organised a Capacity Building Training Programme for Hotel Housekeeping Professionals at Hotel IKON by Annapoorna, Coimbatore, on 25th November 2025. The programme was conducted in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu Tourism Department, Coimbatore office, and SKAL International Coimbatore Chapter, under the theme “Best Practices in Housekeeping.”
The initiative was part of the Ministry of Tourism’s renewed approach to reposition India Tourism Offices as Catalysts for Convergence, encouraging closer cooperation between government bodies and the tourism industry while enhancing the overall visitor experience. Through this programme, Indiatourism Chennai aimed to strengthen professional competencies, improve service benchmarks and promote global standards within the hospitality sector across the region.
The training programme witnessed participation from 75 housekeeping professionals representing 25 hotels from Coimbatore, Valparai and Pollachi. It provided participants with valuable insights into modern housekeeping operations, efficiency in service delivery and evolving guest expectations, all of which are vital to maintaining high-quality hospitality standards in a competitive tourism landscape.
Addressing the gathering, Shri D. Venkatesan, Regional Director (South), Ministry of Tourism, emphasised the importance of sustainable housekeeping practices, improved hygiene standards and consistent service excellence in shaping a positive impression of destinations. He also highlighted how trained frontline staff play a critical role in enhancing guest satisfaction and strengthening India’s image as a preferred tourist destination.
The technical session was conducted by Dr. Eugene, Lecturer, Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) Chennai, who delivered an informative and engaging presentation on best practices in housekeeping. His session covered innovative cleaning techniques, operational efficiency, safety standards and adherence to global hospitality norms, supported by practical insights and demonstrations. The interactive nature of the training was widely appreciated by the participants.
The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Smt. T. Jegatheswari, District Tourist Officer, Government of Tamil Nadu, who underlined the importance of service quality in building a destination’s reputation and driving tourism growth. Participants expressed appreciation for the relevance and practicality of the programme and showed strong interest in attending similar capacity-building initiatives in the future.
Indiatourism Chennai plans to continue organising such training programmes across Southern India to further strengthen skills, encourage industry collaboration and elevate standards in the hospitality sector.
