MoT's Roadshow to call on the interest of Domestic Investor for 1st Global Tourism Investors’ Summit

India is blessed naturally, alluring millions of tourists from across the world. With its inherent strengths and future growth potential India can be an attractive investment destination. India has identified several priorities for its G20 presidency and tourism being one of them Ministry of Tourism, Government of India along with CII is organising the 1st Global Tourism Investors’ Summit from 10th to 12th April 2023 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. To call on the interest of the Domestic Investor and policy maker the Roadshow was organised in Mumbai on 19th January 2023 at The St. Regis Hotel. 

The summit will give an opportune platform for investors even from G20 countries to explore Indian tourism industry products among areas of other bilateral/multilateral engagements. India has a historic chance to exhibit its tourism, culture, and legacy to the 19 most powerful nations and the EU forming G20. G20 presidency will be leveraged for fruitful developments in tourism sector and promoting a sustainable, responsible and inclusive tourism in India.

The roadshow focused on promoting India as an investment destination for travel, tourism, and hospitality by identifying State-Specific investment possibilities and discussing avenues to promote the diverse portfolio of tourism products which includes cruises, adventure, medical, wellness, sports such as Golf and Polo, MICE (meetings, incentives, conferencing, exhibitions), eco-tourism, film, rural and religious tourism. The Roadshow witnessed more than 150 delegates from Hospitality sector, Travel trade partners from various segments like Medical Tourism, Agro Tourism to name few and the officials from State/UT of Western Region (Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, DNH & DD).

Mr Sunit Kothari - Co- Convener, CII Maharashtra Sub-group on Tourism and Aviation & Director, Kothari Group addressed the gathering, representing Ministry of Tourism Mr Prashant Ranjan, Director – IDIP, Swadesh Darshan, Niche Tourism and Administration, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India gave a detailed presentation on 'Invest in India'. The official from the western states were - Mr Saurabh Vijay, Principal Secretary - Tourism & Cultural Affairs, Government of Maharashtra; Mr H M Jadeja, Joint Managing Director, Tourism Corporation of Gujurat Ltd; Mr Suresh Jhariya, Joint Director – Investment Promotion, Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board; Mr. Jenish Patel, Manager SPOTAC Department of Tourism, Daman and Mr. Pravin Kumar Faldessai, Manager GTDC (Goa Tourism). The officials ellaborated the investment possibilities in the segment unique to that state.

GITS will be leveraged to bring in global investments beyond the hospitality industry, that is, into theme parks, adventure tourism, amusement parks and skiing destination infrastructure and further, to bring in investments in the tourism infrastructure, technology, skill development, startups and more.
